Computer Tips From A Computer Guy |
Posted: 25 Apr 2011 04:17 AM PDT Passing the time during a lame day at work often requires creativity. Obviously, whipping our your cell phone to play Words with Friends is unacceptable—the boss is sure to notice. The better choice is to find a game you can play with your friends via email, since then it will look like you are still working tirelessly. MailGames24 allows you to do just that: play simple board games with friends through email. Since the Web site is new, only five games are currently available: Chess, BattleOrcs, 4 In A Row, Flip-O-Thello and Gomoku. All are renamed versions of classic board games. Choose the game you want to play, then click Start Game beneath its description. Enter your name and email address, as well as your opponents name and email address. Next, enter the Captcha code and agree to the terms of service. Click Start Game when finished. You are then sent an email with instructions on how to make your first move. The game board appears on the left of the email. Decide where to make your first move. Reply to the email with the row number or coordinates of your move to play the game. You will receive an email stating your move is valid (or not), and your opponent will also receive an email prompting him to make a move. Once your opponent makes a move, you will receive an email showing the move and prompting you to make another move. The game continues like this, back and forth, keeping score until someone finally wins. Games are advertisement supported. On the right of each email are links to buy items on Amazon. We tested 4 in a Row and Chess, and were very pleased with the results. These games are an entertaining, non-invasive distraction; you simply play as you have time. Use a personal email address and the boss will never know you wiled away the hours playing Chess with your mom.
